Seyal Phulka Spring announced its arrival, winter bid adieu, and summer is almost knocking at the doors. Holi(Indian Festival of colours ) is just few days away, and I am as usual grumpy and lethargic. No changes in SEASON of my MOOD. The diet regime seems to be improper, leaving me dull and tired whole day. I need to breakup my meals into more sensible way and include some more antioxidants and proteins too. Of late we had been socializing more, that ends up in many unwanted calories in the body and the fight to get rid of those extra…

Firstly Let me Thank , all of those wonderful people who shared the tips on how to keep a kid occupied at home during Holidays. I am surely trying to follow all the suggestions given by you. I am not comfortable with Summer Camps and practically speaking there aren’t any good options available around our place. So for now, the mornings are spend watching some cartoons on T.V, afternoons in practising some Keyboard (Piano) lessons . Thanks to dear hubby who got this wonderful book ,where the notes are explained in such a simple way, that now our son is…

Marriage as I said previously, is a strange alliance of two totally different personalities. No matter how much compatible two people are with each other, no matter how much they compromise and adjust, there are bound to be some differences in thoughts and opinions. So while shopping with hubby might be a wonderful pass time for you (obviously because of his credit cards), it could be a pure torture for Hubby dear. Watching a romantic movie together might be your idea of spending a day with him, but his mind must be surely wandering towards latest Sci-fi thriller that is been…

Sindhis are observing Vadhi Gyars or Ekadashi fast today. A heavy Dhodho (Flatbread) with potato curry could not be a fasting food for me, but it tastes delicious for sure! Ekadashi means the eleventh lunar day (Tithi) of the shukla (bright) or krishna (dark) paksha (fortnight) of every lunar month in the Hindu calendar (Panchang) (Wikipedia) Sindhis observe Vadhi Gyaras or Badi Ekadashi (Prabhodhini) with exuberance, avoiding grains for the whole day. Evenings are generally spend on arrangements for Tulsi ji shaadi (Tulsi Vivah), followed by the rituals of Tulsi marriage and singing prayers and songs and sharing food. At…

This is one of unique and important festival in the Sindhi festival calendar. The festival is dedicated to Goddess Mahalaxmi, the Goddess of wealth and being celebrated during the “Shiradhs” – a time period of two weeks dedicated for paying homage to forefathers. Celebration of festival starts with tying “Sagaro” a thread belt compiled from raw thread with sixteen knots,on wrist. On the eighth shiradh, sagaro is untied To mark the end of festival a special worship prayer of Goddess Mahalaxmi is conducted in near by temple where all the ladies are gathered with sagara of all the family members.…

Dhodho is a lovely way to include whole grains in your diet, though the addition of oil makes it bit unhealthy for weight watchers, but it is surely a delight to relish this Jowar flour flatbread with anything you like…..from dal to Subzi, achar to Yoghurt I had came across various different versions to make this, but my favourite way is kneading a soft dough (instead of cooking in pan first) along with chopped onions, bit of oil, coriander leaves and most most most important, Fresh green garlic If I dont find fresh green garlic, I try to make it…

Sultry summers are gone here in Mumbai and monsoon showers have knocked the parched earth, giving a sigh of relief, from dusty, sweaty, nasty heat of summer. However, I’ll miss some of my favorite summer things, like making falooda icecream, chilled mangoshakes, jaljeera and of course chilled masala chaach (buttermilk). One more food that associates me with summer afternoons is Dhodho, which is a type of flatbread, made from rice flour. It’s bit sticky, light, not too much spicy yet it serves as a delicious accompaniment with any veggie or Dal and I just love to wash it down with…
