Choco Banana Delight

Summer being officially in, its time for School Vacation here in India.

Vacation….sounds Music to my ears…No morning rush, no Tiffin worries and no studies-related stress. But then vacation do mean, keeping your little one, fruitfully occupied. Computer games, Television are good for justΒ  a limited period of time, though kids beg to differ on that. And it needs to be a real courageous Mother to let the kid play outdoors during afternoons, when Sun is all set (or rose to?) to make life miserable, with all its sultriness. So while mornings and evenings are good for some outdoor activities, afternoons are bound to be troublesome while handling a cranky kid, who is BORED with the so-called limited toys and games, and here parents beg to differ πŸ˜‰

Anyways to make afternoons interesting for kids, some indoor games , drawings, paintings, books etc are good options and once your baby is bored of even that….just share your kitchen space with them(but keep a great vigil on naughty ones). Cooking could be really fun and kids tend to enjoy it a lot.It could be a messy affair with many distractions, but its worth putting efforts. Do try it..let kids get involve in simple cooking procedures like kneading, rolling doughs, making shapes of tikkis, cutlets, garnishing, decorating a salad plate etc. And who knows, you might end up with having a Sous-chef in your kitchen….what say huh?

For me, I have a great foodie at my home, my little wonder, who is hell bent on pushing me out of the kitchen and rule “MY PLACE”. The seven something lad loves to roll rotis, stuffed parathas, make some Desserts, Raita etc. And today’s Choco banana recipe is what he suggested to me after watching it on Active Whizkids on TataSky..lol …..I never knew it could be a source of Food recipes πŸ˜‰

He insisted we make it as soon as he saw some Bananas in market, and refused to budge from the kitchen until it was made. Here’s how it goes ;

A simple dessert recipe that even your kid can assemble, almost no-cook dessert made by dunking banana pieces into chocolate and wrapped up with crumbled digestive biscuits.
Ingredients
  • 2 Ripe but firm bananas
  • ½ cup of melted chocolate (We used combo of Dairy milk and Hershey's )
  • 2-3 Marie or any other digestive biscuits
  • Some finely crushed walnuts, almonds etc
  • Some tooth picks
  • And some patience to tackleΒ  an over- enthusiastic and impatient kid πŸ˜‰
Method
  1. In a double boiler, melt the chocolate.Keep the bowl with melted chocolate immersed in hot water till used. Lick some if you can't resist, go ahead, let your kid do the same(but watch out the heat)
  2. Peel and slice bananas into around 1-2 inch pieces.Your kid will be more than happy to do this. But be careful with knife.
  3. Crush the almonds/walnuts (or both) and set aside.
  4. Crush the biscuits (Ask your kid to do the honors for you) and keep these aside in a plate.
  5. Now pick each piece of banana with a toothpick, roll it in melted chocolate till it is covered with heavenly brown layer, roll it in crushed biscuits, then roll it again (lots of rolling going on..hmmmm) on the bed of crushed dry fruits. Don't worry about the mess..Moms know best how to clear it..No?.
  6. Chill the brown delights in refrigerator for some time, say about 2 hours, or even less if your little one is impatient.
  7. Let him/her enjoy his/her creation, biting those delights with the double satisfaction of licking chocolate and making Desserts, while you watch the bundle of joys, with double satisfaction of making a chocolaty dessert for them and also having spend some good time, cooking with your kid.

The Choco Banana delight goes to Srivalli’s Kid’s DelightCooking with kids” event. Thanks valli, for coming up with such a thoughtful event.
